David Young

David’s education includes a B.M. in Music Education with Performer’s Certificate, Eastman School, a M.M. and a D.M.A., in double bass performance, USC.  His teachers have included Oscar Zimmerman, Peter Mercurio, and Dennis Trembly.  He is a former member of the Rochester Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.  Formerly he also served as principal bass of the Long Beach Symphony, the Santa Barbara Symphony, and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra currently principal bass with the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra.


He has been on the faculty of the Colburn School of Performing Arts for over 35 years.  There he teaches bassists privately, leads the Colburn School Double Bass Ensemble, and coaches chamber music.
